The Princess and the Goblin

I’m not the type of person who reads old/antique books, but I read this book and wanted to share with the world my opinion, the things I might have learned, and whether you should read it or not.

This book is about a little girl called Irene. She was a princess, but even though she had everything one could dream of (dolls, dresses, the room, etc.), she was still unhappy with her life; she was often bored. One day she got lost in the castle, and she started crying and hoping Lottie (her nanny) could find her. In the middle of her desperation, she saw stairs, which led her to her great-grandmother. That’s when the adventure (to put it that way) started. Irene tried telling a few people about her great-grandmother, but nobody believed her. The story goes on; Irene meets Curdie, and in the end, very few people can see her great-grandmother. One of them got promoted, and the princess was no longer bored, as she had her great-grandmother, Curdie, and Lottie.

Now, what does the book teach us?

I loved how they showed that sometimes grown-up people don’t believe kids only because they’re kids; Sometimes kids see stuff that maybe adults don’t. It should be remembered that kids have a greater imagination than anyone on the planet. So that’s that, but it also shows that sometimes we have to believe to see. What do I mean by that? Well, (yeah, I’m going to say it) this might sound weird; you’re probably thinking, “Believing to see? What is she talking about!?"  But think about it, Irene believed her great-grandmother was there; that’s why she could see her, and Curdie did not; that's why he couldn’t see her, but he started believing; he started seeing the lamp of the great-grandmother (which is a start; I bet that if he believes more, then he can see more); Look, you don’t start something and immediately see the result; sometimes seeing the result takes time, for some people it takes days, but for others it takes months, and even some people see the results in years. YOU CAN´T QUIT JUST BECAUSE YOU DON´T SEE THE RESULT! KEEP BELIVING!

And last, but certainly not least, should you read this book?

I’m not going to lie, it was weird reading this, not bad odd but also not good weird, The book doesn’t have a chronology, so technically you can’t follow the book as easily as in other books,  and sometimes you’ll find yourself saying “wait, what?”, also, you don’t know how does every chapter connect to the other one (ok, maybe not all of them are like this, the last 3 or 4 you could understand a little bit more, but the majority makes you feel like you’re in a roller coaster), think as if you were reading Alice in the wonderland.

So, would I recommend you to read it? sure, I mean not always you get to read a book with old English, but do keep in mind if you’re going to read it that you’ll find yourself lost in the book.
